Package overview

A real Nairobi National Park game drive in half a day, with the USD 80 KWS park fee already inside the price rather than waiting for you at the gate.

Nairobi National Park is 117 square kilometres of open plain that starts fifteen minutes from the city centre, and it is the only national park on earth inside a capital city. Lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, eland and one of Kenya's densest black rhino populations, photographed against a skyline of office towers. There are no elephants here, which is the one thing worth knowing before you come, and we would rather tell you now than have you look for them all morning. We run this as a morning or an afternoon drive in a private pop-top vehicle, which means the roof opens, everyone gets a window, and the guide works to what you want to see rather than to a fixed circuit. On price, the figure shown is per person and the Kenya Wildlife Service entry fee is already in it. That fee is USD 80 per non-resident adult and USD 40 per child, set on 1 October 2025 in the first revision in eighteen years, and it is the largest single cost in this package. Operators advertising a Nairobi National Park drive at USD 35 or USD 40 are quoting you transport only. You still pay the USD 80 at the gate, and it is usually a card-only eCitizen payment that catches people out. Because the vehicle is private, the cost per head falls as you fill it: USD 150 per person at four sharing, USD 185 to USD 200 at two, and from USD 265 for a single traveller. Peak season, 16 June to 31 October and 20 December to 2 January, sits at the top of those ranges. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and party size and we will confirm the exact figure before you book. Gates open at 06:00 and close at 18:00 with no entry after 18:15. Early morning is the better drive by a wide margin, and the Mbagathi and Cheetah gates are quieter than the main Lang'ata gate on weekends.

The route

The Itinerary

06:00 AM

05:45 — Hotel pickup

Collection from your Nairobi hotel or residence. Early starts are not for show: the animals move at dawn and the park is empty. Afternoon departures around 14:30 are available but the game viewing is materially poorer.

06:15 — Into the park

Entry at Mbagathi or Cheetah Gate rather than the main Lang’ata gate, which queues badly at weekends. KWS entry is paid on your behalf, USD 80 per adult, so there is nothing to settle at the barrier.

06:30 — Game drive

Roof up, everyone at a window. Lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, eland and one of the densest black rhino populations in Kenya, against the city skyline. There are no elephants in this park — worth knowing before you come rather than spending the morning looking.

10:30 — Return

Back through the gate and into the city, dropping at your hotel. Add the Nairobi Safari Walk or the Animal Orphanage at USD 25 each if you want to extend.
